OK, I finally completed refinishing the radio cabinet that my aunt
gifted to me back in May [1]. It did not come with internals so I
have outfitted it with our old bookshelf stereo and HD radio. The
parts will be inside the cabinet and since there is no back, I have
the speakers facing the wall which will help amplify the bass.
Sitting on top is a self-contained "vintage"-looking turntable,
radio, and CD combo with built in speakers. It has no jacks for
external inputs or outputs.
The cabinet turned out much better than I thought it would. It
matches the other furniture in our living room. This is where
taking my time and persistence has paid off. I can't count how many
projects could have been much better if I just took my time or just
kept with it.
Much has been learned throughout this experience and I feel like I
have leveled up my woodworking skills in several areas. Also, doing
the work has given me hours and hours of time to decompress and be
in the moment of the task at hand, not rushing or having to be tied
to any sort of deadline.
The part that took the longest was the sanding. I think that the
perfectionist in me ran rampant for too long and I had to consciously
be ok with ignoring him or I'd still be sanding the damn thing.
Since pictures could probably say much more than what I could ever
say in words, here are some pics:
